Civilware All Terrain Bedroll
The Civilware All Terrain Bedroll is probably one of my favorite pieces of equipment. I say equipment because I see the bedroll as a necessary item designed for a particular purpose. The bedroll is based on a similar design to that of bedrolls carried by soldiers in the U.S. Civil War or the early pioneers. It is robust, water repellent, insulative and surprisingly lightweight (4lbs) for a piece of gear of this type. I have been using the bedroll for the last year and it has been almost everywhere with me. From cold nights under the star lit desert skies of Arizona to the incredible mountainous coastline of Iceland. The Civilware bedroll has been a welcome comfort when camping out by the fire, shooting rounds down the range or just relaxing on a day hike picnic.
The bedroll comprises 2 main materials. A waxed water repellent 10.10 oz army duck canvas and an 85% wool 15% nylon blend fabric on the other. The canvas acts as a tough as nails durable ground sheet and the wool lining gives maximum warmth and durability. The 2 components are marine stitched together with weather-resistant UV thread.
The bedroll as the name suggests, neatly rolls up and folds in half to create a compact easy carry item. It can either be carried over the shoulder almost like a thick satchel strap or it can be attached to the many carry loops that come on most backpacks. To keep the bedroll folded and secure, Civilware have included a military style aluminium quick release buckle.
The key fob is a really nice touch. I carry a pretty big bunch of keys and I am forever taking them out of my pocket and sticking them down on a random log or the ground when I stop to eat or camp. The key fob just gives you that added bit of security that your not going to lose your stuff.
The bedroll is made in the USA and you can totally tell that there has been really tight control over its design, choice of materials and manufacturing. Every part of its construction is solid. Throw it down, light a fire, put on a pot of coffee and relax. What I particularly like about the bedroll is the material choice and how it lends its self to outdoor camps and bushcraft type activities. Being made of canvas and wool it is super silent and robust. These materials are fire retardant and will not melt if a spark from a fire lands on them. If you add in a wool blanket it becomes the perfect fireside camp bed. You can also roll it back up with a wool blanket. The bedroll measures 36" x 84" / 91 x 213 cm so theres enough room to sleep comfortably.
The beauty of this product is that you can throw it in the truck and just leave it there. Its no good kept in a cupboard only to come out at special occasions. Use it. Keep in handy. If I am out working in the forest I will get the bedroll out of the truck at lunch for a bit of comfort. Have a bite to eat and a quick nap. It also makes a good shooting mat if you need to lay down on the ground at the range to check the zero of your rifle or just shoot a few targets.
Civilware are known for producing solid bullet proof products. One of the things that I admire about the gear is how complementary each of the items are to one another. I'm fortunate enough to have been using and testing Civilware products in the field for around 3 years now. Camping, hiking, hunting and working in the forest. Legit equipment that is incredibly well designed and manufactured. If you havnt already then go check em out...and go get some.
